Peace, Land, and Cash.

Betty or Veronica? I suppose it's a lose-lose situation for Archie.

Living in a culture of conspicuous consumption, we are often inundated with messages of our relentless pursuit of happiness. We long for things that we cannot ascertain. Once in our possession we take things for granted. We always want what we cannot have, this holds true for most aspects of life, relationships included.

For once, should we step back and just appreciate the things that we do have in life, and be content? How can we be content with life when the only way to improve ourselves is to desire more. Perhaps this is the source of depression for most in the western world, we fail to live up to our own standards and expectations.

In the past, people were promised "Peace, land and bread" and people were content with whatever dictator promised them that. Now we want peace, land, and enough cash to fund our very own lavish rap music videos, with booty shaking and all.

I do suppose, money can't buy you true happiness. After all, what's the point of being the wealthiest person in the world, if you were the only one left. You need someone to either share it with, or at the very least, have someone there that you can make jealous. Money however, can buy you freedom. On a related note, there's 2 more hours till I get off work.

interesting...
you know, on a related note, that's something that i've been thinking about lately... like... i realize how flawed Westerners think now that i'm on the outside looking in... i realize how we're consumed by materialism, and the wanting to be our own gods, to be the controller of our lives...
whereas in Asia.... people are so aware of the spiritual world..

it's really different masks that the devil puts on depending on which place it's at work....

and yes, about my address... don't worry too much about it. not too many people have the site to my blogspot... hee~ so it should be ok. =)

so... where's my letter eh? hahahah

True.

But also...I think for a lot of people, money imprisons them. They worry about it, they waste a large portion of their time on earth trying to get more of it...they take their own lives when they lose all of it.

maybe freedom is in being able to see that happiness doesn't reside in anything that we don't have already.

woah, did I just leave a serious comment on your blog?

I think we get temporary gratification by fulfilling desires, rather than the true "happiness."

our satisfaction on materialistic desires don't go very far...
we usually get what we want and starts to think, "what next?" and the cycle never ends.
i have to admit however that i am still very worldly... so tell fido to give me the iPhone already!
